Summer Grant Round 2014

Our Summer Grant Round had many amazing applications. We are pleased to announce the following successful applicants:

Leeds Children's Hospital Appeal - £619

Leeds Children's Hospital Appeal aim to make every child's stay in hospital better, brighter and happier. The hospitals sees children from Leeds and West Yorkshire going in for various treatments. They have found that a simple reward for children's bravery makes such a difference to their experience, by distracting them and then giving them a sense of achievement. Cash for Kids have agreed to provide funding for a year's worth of bravery stickers.

Women's Health Matters - £1,500

Women's Health Matters support vulnerable women in Leeds and provide support so that women can lead a healthy lifestyle. They are hosting a summer picnic and want to provide child care facilities on the day, so that the women can bring their families to enjoy the day. Cash for Kids are supporting them by purchasing materials for the children's activities, food and treats and funds for creche and play workers to supervise the children.

Willow Young Carers - £2,990

Willow Young Carers support children in Leeds who are looking after a family member who has a serious illness or a disability. Cash for Kids are supporting Willow Young Carers by granting funds for 10 activity days for young carers to enjoy. The activity days focus on improving the emotional wellbeing and confidence of the young children.

Children's Heart Surgery Fund - £1,470

The Children's Heart Surgery Fund support the Children's Heart Unit at Leeds General Infirmary and raise money to provide equipment for the hospital. The hospital want to purchase pain distraction systems called DITTOS, which are hand-held, interactive and relaxing for children undergoing painful treatment. Cash for Kids have agreed to fund one DITTO.

KIDS - £665

KIDS group run a school holiday youth clubs for children in Wakefield who have learning and/or physical disabilities. The have started the new group for children whose parents work during the school holidays, and want equipment to keep them entertained. Cash for Kids are purchasing a TV, DVD player, Xbox and Bean Bags for the group.

Little London Community Primary School - £375

The school is situated in a high-poverty area of Leeds and many of the pupils are from low-income families. The school are providing clubs during the school holidays for children to go along to, to keep them occupied. At the end of the school holidays the club would like to take these children on a day-trip to Scarborough - something these children would not normally get to enjoy. Cash for Kids are providing funding to pay for the coach hire.

Broomfield South SILC - £2,000

Broomfield South Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre is situated in Belle Isle in Leeds. The pupils that attend Broomfield are of all ages and suffer many different disabilities. A lot of the pupils thrive from musical stimulation, but music lessons is currently out of the National Curriculum. Cash for Kids have agreed to purchase musical instruments suitable for all ages and abilities.

Amelia Quadeer Aged 3 - £2,600

Amelia is from Wakefield and has cerebral palsy and gastronomy reflux. These illnesses affect Amelia in many ways; impacting her movement, growth and sleep patterns. Her family have been tirelessly fundraising to pay for ABR Treatment (Advanced Biomechanial Rehabilitation) in Edinburgh. This treatment helps improve Amelia's mobility in her arms and legs - to enable her to sit up and crawl, her digestive lung and motor functions too. Cash for Kids are delighted to support Amelia's mother's application, and will provide funding for one session of ABR Treatment in Edinburgh.

Briany Lambert Aged 9 - £2,137

Briany is from Bradford and was starved of oxygen at birth and subsequent complications resulted in Briany being unable to walk, talk or eat orally. Briany has already exceeded her life expectancy and her family concentrate on trying to make her life as comfortable as possible. The family rarely venture out as Briany is not comfortable outdoors. They have started fundraising for sensory equipment for their home to help calm Briany and help her sleep. Cash for Kids loved that Briany's family are so supportive and loved their fundraising efforts. Cash for Kids have agreed to pay for a Fibre Optic Wall Carpet, Fibre Optic Harness and a Fibre Optic Curtain Kit.
