A young boy has died after being hit by a car outside a house in a country lane in Wakefield.
A young boy has died after being hit by a car outside a house in a country lane in Wakefield.
Police and several ambulances, including an air ambulance, attended an address in Lingwell Nook Lane, in the Lofthouse area, in West Yorkshire, at around 2.15pm on Wednesday.
West Yorkshire Police said the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The force's statement said: "Inquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances around this tragic incident.''
A spokeswoman added the investigation was in its early'' stages and she provided no further details about the victim.
A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said:
"It's a serious road traffic collision we have attended. The air ambulance was in attendance.''
One Twitter user posted a picture showing at least six emergency services vehicles parked along the lane, which borders a field near to a golf course and woodland.
Reave Westwell, 21, who lives nearby, said she went out to see what was happening when she heard sirens outside.
The journalism student said:
"I was at the front of my house and emergency response cars sped past."
"It's a quiet lane in the middle of fields and I just walked down and the air ambulance was circling quite low. It landed in the field opposite."
"Then I heard lots of sirens and police cars and ambulances, they all hurried up the road and blocked the road off. Police said it was a sensitive issue. I'm just a bit shocked because it's a really quiet road.''
