Police have confirmed that they are investigating a series of bomb threats made against six Leeds schools

No suspicious packages have been found and officers are treating the calls as a hoax.

Chief Superintendent Paul Money, Leeds District Commander, said: "Shortly after 8.30am, we received reports that a number of high schools in Leeds had received telephone calls making apparent bomb threats.

"Officers have attended at the six affected schools and are liaising with staff on site.

"We are aware of previous similar incidents elsewhere in the UK and in other countries and we are currently treating this incident as a hoax.

"At this stage no suspicious packages have been discovered and no evacuations have been required.

"We will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day and offer all necessary support and reassurance to the schools and the wider community.

"These malicious calls have the potential to cause significant disruption to our schools and unnecessary alarm to staff, pupils and parents alike.

"A full investigation is underway into the source of the calls and we will be liaising with colleagues in other parts of the country that have experienced similar incidents today and previously."
