A-Level Success in Leeds
Early signs suggest young people in Leeds will be celebrating again today (13 August) after achieving top grades in their A-level and BTEC exams.
Leeds City Council is still collecting results from across the city, but early indicators - from almost 80 per cent of schools and academies with sixth forms* - show that across all qualifications at this level, the average points achieved per entry has increased from 208 in 2014 to 213.7 (please see notes). This is the equivalent of just above a C grade. The average points per student is 724.6 which has increased from 682 in 2014.
Councillor Lucinda Yeadon executive board member responsible for children and families said: “I would like congratulate everyone on what they have achieved today. These results demonstrate a lot of hard work, effort and determination, as well as the high quality of teaching in our schools and colleges.
“Our ambition to be a child friendly city means making sure that all of our children and young people are given the best possible chance of getting the qualifications and skills they need to succeed in the years ahead. Our young people are leaving school and college with essential skills and qualifications, which will help them to achieve their full potential in life.
“Schools, colleges, parents and carers all play a huge part in young people’s exam successes and they deserve recognition for their support and efforts over the last two years.”
This year, the early data collected by Leeds City Council from schools differs from previous years and does not include the number of A Levels passed and at what grades. A full picture of these will be available in the autumn.
