Kids As Young As 12 Have Stress-Related Illnesses

Children in Leeds as young as 12 are suffering from stress-related illnesses.

That's from NCS who say 84% of 12-18 year olds have experienced stress at some point in the last year - and a quarter aren't speaking out.

Janey Downshire is from Teenagers Translated and runs programmes in schools across Yorkshire. She says "as a parent your own calmness is contagious, your anxiety is contagfious but your calmness is contagious too - so how you are can help to reduce your teeanger's anxiety."

She tells us what to look out for.

"Trouble sleeping, more argumentative, more difficult behaviour than you would expect normally... Perhaps being negative for a prolonged period of time and it not shifting.. Withdrawal, spending time -but isolated - on their own.

"General low mood for a prolonged period of time, obviously ups and downs are going to be normal, but when it goes on for too long... Parents know their teenagers and parents tend to -with intuition - know when something's up."
