A car has crashed through a wall and ended up in the playground of a Leeds Primary School.

The vehicle broke down the railings at St Matthias on Burley Road. It happened at around 6:30am.

Kate Cameron is the Co-Headteacher. She's told Radio Aire that it's fortunate no one was hurt:

"The question on everybodys mind is what if that had happened during schooltime. I guess it's less likely because people do tend to drive more responsibly during schooltime, but you just don't know."

Traffic calming measures have been installed around the school with speed bumps and a 20 miles per hour restriction in place, but Kate says many motorists still drive too fast:

"The children have all made some road safety signs for their homework to encourage people to slow down. The whole school are about to undertake a road safety walk. Our children cross this road two or three times per day. This is something that is really crucially important for the safety of our pupils."
