The funeral of a little girl who was killed in Rowley Regis has taken place today (5 September).

Mourners gathered at Rowley Regis Crematorium to pay their respects to Shay Kang, who was killed at her home in March.

A horse-drawn carriage led the procession from Brickhouse Primary school, where Shay was a pupil.

Pupils, teachers and members of the local community, many dressed in pink, turned out to say goodbye.

Shay was stabbed and killed at her home on Robin Close on 4 March.

Jaskirat Kaur, Shay's mum, admitted to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and is awaiting sentence.

Brickhouse Primary School organised Shay's funeral service. In a statement, headteacher, Mr Newby, said: "We have been devastated by the loss of this bright, happy, fun-loving girl who was well-liked by all, and who is now very sadly missed by everyone."

He continued that the funeral was arranged for early September to enable as many people as possible to be available to pay their respects.

He added: “School is at the heart of the community, and we know this day will help everyone who knew her to share their respects and pay tribute to the bright, fun-loving girl, and continue us on the road to healing after this devastating event.

“Shay will have a permanent place in school in our memorial garden that we are creating through donations from our parents and staff. This will be a lasting reminder about how much Shay was loved by us all.”
