Warwickshire Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in Nuneaton on Saturday night (June 8th).

Officers first received reports of an incident that was believed to be a stabbing taking place on Queens Road in the town centre at around 9:30 p.m.

When responders arrived on the scene, they found a man in his 20s requiring immediate medical treatment.

Emergency services arrived on the scene to take the man to hospital for treatment, but was sadly pronounced dead despite medics best efforts.

The man's next of kin has been made aware of his death as a post-mortem will be carried out in due course.

Speaking on the case, Detective Chief Inspector Katie Reynolds from the force said that their thoughts are with the grieving family following the man's death.

"We recognise the concern this will cause in the local community and want to reassure the public that, while no arrests have been made, investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident, and our officers are working hard to identify who is responsible," she explained.

She also asked that anyone who may have been on Queens Road or in the locality between 9pm and 9:30pm can get in touch with the force to help police in their enquiries.

"There will continue to be a heightened police presence in the area while our officers carry out their enquiries and a large police cordon remains in place in and around Queens Road which is likely to cause some disruption, so I’d like to thank local people and businesses for their cooperation and patience," she added.

Those who may have any information on the incident or witnessed the attack take place can get in touch with Warwickshire Police by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 318 on June 8th.
