England's Lionesses have made it through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup but needed penalties to get there.

England made it to the last 16 after winning three out of three matches in the Group Stages but needed penalties to get past Nigeria in the last 16.

It finished nil-nil after extra time, but England went through after beating Nigeria 4-2 on penalties.

Red card for James

The Lionesses were down to 10 players for the extra time after forward Lauren James was shown a red card after 87 minutes.

A VAR check ruled she had deliberately stamped on the back of Nigeria defender Michelle Alozie.
