People in Coningsby left devastated after fatal RAF spitfire crash
The World War Two aircraft came down near the RAF base at Coningsby yesterday

People in Coningsby, Lincolnshire have been leaving tributes in he town for the RAF pilot who died yesterday after his Spitfire crashed in a nearby field.
Emergency services were called to the field on Langrick Road just before 1.20pm on Saturday 25th May.
The injuries the pilot sustained were not survivable and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations are ongoing into the cause.
Lincolnshire Police are not in a position to confirm the man's name but his next of kin have been informed. Nobody else is thought to have been injured as a result.
The incident has shocked people in the down - one person said: “We heard the spitfire come across from our garden, the engine sounded really ropey – it wa spluttering and popping.”
Another said: “It’s very tragic news, it’s such an iconic aircraft and everyone loves to see it. Just to know people have lost their lives is horrendous.”
