Alex Salmond sexual assault complaint probed by police
The former First Minister of Scotland was buried last week after dying in North Macedonia at a conference
Police have confirmed they've received a report of a 'non-recent sexual assault' allegation, against Alex Salmond.
Officers say the information is being 'assessed.'
The former First Minister of Scotland died last month of a heart attack while attending a conference in North Macedonia.
His latter career was plagued by claims of sexual misconduct which he firmly denied. But now it has been revealed that a woman has reported the historical alleged incident to Police Scotland who are looking into the potential crime.
Mr Salmond walked free from the High Court in Edinburgh in March 2020 after a jury found him not guilty of 12 charges of attempted rape, sexual assault and indecent assault. Another verdict of not proven was delivered on one charge of sexual assault with intent to rape.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we have received a report of a non-recent sexual assault.
“The information is being assessed.”
