Four people have been taken to hospital following a crash that saw a total of 15 vehicles collide on the M23 in Sussex.

Both sides of the motorway between junctions 10 and 11 were closed for several hours after the incident at around 5pm yesterday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses to what happened have reported that conditions on the road were treacherously icy at the time - with one man calling it the 'worst' crash he'd ever seen.

South East Coast Ambulance Service said they assessed around 30 people for injuries with a casualty triage centre setup at the nearby K2 Leisure Centre.

Four were taken straight to hospital though their condition is not thought to be life threatening.

The road reopened in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
