Manchester's prodigal sons Courteeners performed a super intimate session at the Absolute Radio studios for a handful of lucky listeners, and now you too can pretend you were right there in the room with them!

Lead singer Liam Fray, drummer Michael Campbell, guitarist Daniel "Conan" Moores and their live band, treated the assembled fans to stripped-back versions of their songs 'Better Man', 'Hanging Off Your Cloud' and their 00s anthem 'Not Nineteen Forever'.

They also performed a very special cover version of Blur's melancholic classic 'Tender'!

Taken from their debut studio album 'St. Jude', Not Nineteen Forever was released as a single in 2008 and soon became their signature tune.

The Absolute Radio playlisted 'Better Man' comes from Courteeners' most recent album 'More. Again. Forever.' which was released at the beginning of 2020.

Also from 'More. Again. Forever.', this achingly beautiful stripped back version of Hanging Off Your Cloud features Liam on acoustic guitar duties, accompanied by pianist Elina Lin.

"We're gonna play you a cover now, and I apologise to Blur in advance if we get it wrong." Liam humbly introduces the song to the audience, before guitarist Daniel "Conan" Moores launches into the famous Graham Coxon riff.

Sublime.

After their session, Liam Fray sat down for a chat with our Ross Buchanan, where they talked about how Courteeners keep their creative process fresh, the nerves before performing an intimate gig, and the current state of guitar music in the UK.
