Morrissey has taken to his official website today (29th August) to claim he recently agreed to a Smiths reunion tour in 2025.

The statement posted to the singer’s Morrissey Central website alleges that Johnny Marr turned down the lucrative offer from AEG for a tour with The Smiths.

“In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as 'The Smiths' throughout 2025,” the post reads.

“Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer.”

Taking a swipe at his former band mate, the statement continued: “Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November.

“Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.”

Morrissey's statement on The Smiths reunion

With Oasis reforming on Tuesday, many have questioned whether another legendary feuding Manchester band might bury the hatchet for a reunion tour.

When one fan asked Johnny Marr on X if he’d reunite The Smiths, the guitarist simply replied with a picture of Reform MP Nigel Farage.

Smiths bassist Andy Rourke sadly died in May 2023 following a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 59 years old.
