The Killers set incredible UK chart record with new album 'Pressure Machine'
It's stormed straight in at Number 1
The Killers have stormed straight in at Number 1 with their seventh studio album ‘Pressure Machine’ and they’ve set a new chart record in the process.
The Las Vegas indie rock giants have now scored seven consecutive Number 1 albums in the UK following their previous chart-toppers ‘Hot Fuss’ (2005), ‘Sam’s Town’ (2006), ‘Day & Age’ (2008), ‘Battle Born’ (2012), ‘Wonderful Wonderful’ (2017) and ‘Imploding The Mirage’ (2020) - an Official UK Chart record for an international act.
Other bands who have shot to Number 1 in the UK with every one of their studio albums include Coldplay (8 Number 1 albums), Oasis (7) and Arctic Monkeys (6).
Incredibly, if you count his two solo albums ‘Flamingo’ (2010) and ‘The Desired Effect’ (2015), Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has had nine consecutive Number 1 albums.
‘Pressure Machine’ picked up 25,000 chart sales in its first seven days, a whopping 84% of which were physical sales. It also tops the vinyl album chart with over 5,400 sales.
Billed as The Killers’ most restrained and resonant album yet’, ‘Pressure Machine’ is a concept album of sorts about Brandon Flowers’ hometown of Nephi, Utah - a close-knit community of 5,300 people with no traffic lights, a rubber plant, wheat fields, and the West Hills.
Drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr comments: “We were discussing (Brandon) moving to Nephi as a kid and being stuck in the middle of nowhere and during Covid-19, it started to feel like we were all in the middle of nowhere.”
Brandon adds: “I discovered this grief that I hadn’t dealt with. Many memories of my time in Nephi are tender but the ones tied to fear or great sadness were emotionally charged.
“I’ve got more understanding now than when we started the band, and hopefully I was able to do justice to these stories and these lives in this little town that I grew up in.”
The Killers will tour the UK in summer 2022 in support of both ‘Imploding the Mirage’ and ‘Pressure Machine.’
