Green Day covers project The Coverups performed a rapturously received 24-song set in front of 600 fans at The Garage in London last night (27th February).

Consisting of Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt alongside touring guitarist Jason White, audio engineer Chris Dugan on drums and tour manager Bill Schneider on bass, The Coverups formed in 2018 and until last night they’ve only performed live in the United States.

Their sold-out show at The Garage last night was just their inaugural concert on these shores, and they play an even more intimate show at The 100 Club on Friday (1st March).

The Coverups’ anthem-laden set at The Garage opened with a blistering rendition of The Plimsouls’ ‘A Million Miles Away’ and culminated with an encore of Misfits’ ‘Where Eagles Dare.’

Midway through the set, Billie Joe and co. introduced Hole singer Courtney Love to the stage and she shared vocals on covers of Cheap Trick’s ‘He’s a Whore’ and Tom Petty’s ‘Even the Losers.’ She later returned to belt out a second Cheap Trick cover, ‘Surrender.’

Watch Courtney Love and The Coverups join forces in London:

Elsewhere, The Coverups performed renditions of Sweet’s ‘Fox on the Run’, Nirvana’s ‘Drain You’, David Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust’, Bryan Adams’ ‘Summer of ’69’, The Clash’s ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go’, The Strokes’ ‘Last Nite’, and many more.

Green Day perform four huge stadium shows in Manchester, Glasgow, Dublin and London this June alongside a headline gig at Isle of Wight Festival.

The non-festival dates will see Green Day perform ‘Dookie’ and ‘American Idiot’ in their entirety to celebrate their 30th and 20th anniversaries respectively.
