The 1975 cancel all 2021 shows & confirm new studio album
Bittersweet news from the Manchester band
The 1975 have axed all their 2021 tour dates, including their rescheduled London Finsbury Park show on Saturday 10th July, due to the ongoing situation with the coronavirus pandemic.
The chart-conquering Manchester band released a statement at lunchtime today (12th January) announcing that all their European and North American concerts will no longer be going ahead.
Softening the blow somewhat, The 1975 also confirmed that they’re hard at work on their fifth studio album; the follow-up to May 2020’s ‘Notes on a Conditional Form.’
“We are really sorry to announce that we have made the decision to cancel all scheduled touring for 2021," the 1975 said.
"These are incredibly difficult times for a lot of people, and until we can be sure that we will be able to play shows in a way that is safe for our fans and crew, we have decided the best course of action is to cancel our touring so that, where possible, everyone can get their tickets refunded sooner rather than later.
“We’re currently making a new album and look forward to seeing you all at a show as soon as it is safe to do so.
"For information on refunds for Finsbury Park please go to your point of purchase. Stay safe and look after each other. Matty, George, Adam and Ross."
Billed as “the greenest show Finsbury Park has ever seen”, The 1975 had vowed to plant a tree for evert ticket sold for their huge headline concert in London. The event was also due to be paperless, and traceable sustainably sourced HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) fuel from Europe was set to be used to reduce the concert’s carbon footprint by 90%.
Featuring the singles ‘People’, ‘Frail State of Mind’ and ‘Me & You Together Song’ plus the Greta Thunberg sampling ‘The 1975’, ‘Notes on a Conditional Form’ peaked at number one when it was released last year.
