The Rocketman himself, Elton John, has drafted in a clutch of rock icons for his upcoming 32nd studio album ‘The Lockdown Sessions.’

Released on Friday 22nd October 2021, ‘The Lockdown Sessions’ is a collaborative album that was predominately recorded over the past 18 months while Elton John paused his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks appears on the 16-track album’s penultimate song ‘Stolen Car’, while Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder guests on a track called ‘E‑Ticket.’

For the final track on the record, Elton John guest performs on late country legend Glen Campbell’s 2014 track ‘I’m Not Gonna Miss You.’

Elsewhere, ‘The Lockdown Sessions’ features Miley Cyrus’ haunting cover of Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’, which also appears on the San Francisco metal band’s upcoming 53-track charity album 'The Metallica Blacklist'.

Previously premiered in June, ‘Nothing Else Matters’ also features Elton John on piano alongside Watt (Ozzy Osbourne producer Andrew Watt), Yo-Yo Ma, Metallica’s Robert Trujillo and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith.

Other artists on Elton John’s ‘The Lockdown Sessions’ from across the music world include Gorillaz (their 2020 collaboration with Elton, ‘The Pink Phantom’), Dua Lipa and Stevie Wonder.

Commenting on ‘The Lockdown Sessions’, Elton John said: “The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album. But, as the pandemic went on, one‐off projects kept cropping up and I’ve ended with a selection of really interesting and diverse stuff that was completely different to anything I’m known for, stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory.

Elton John - The Lockdown Sessions

“I realised there was something weirdly familiar about working like this. At the start of my career, in the late 60s, I worked as a session musician. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. I’d come full circle: I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast.”

Elton John joined forces with Ozzy Osbourne on the Black Sabbath singer’s 2020 track ‘Ordinary Man’, however that song doesn’t appear on ‘The Lockdown Sessions.’
