Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder has formed a new indie supergroup called Mantra of the Cosmos with members of Oasis, Ride and The Who.

The band consists of Shaun Ryder on vocals, his Happy Mondays band mate Bez on maracas, The Who’s long-term touring drummer Zak Starkey (son of Ringo Starr), and Ride frontman and former Oasis guitarist Andy Bell.

Mantra of the Cosmos have been busy at work on a new studio album in recent months and, according to Shaun, they’re due to make their live debut at Glastonbury next month.

“I’ve got a new band together,” Shaun Ryder said. “It’s me, Zak Starkey, you know, Ringo’s son, and the drummer in The Who and Andy Bell from Oasis.

“And we’ve been making a new album for (BMG). It’s a bit of a mixture of all that lot together.”

Asked by Bizarre what Mantra of the Cosmos sound like, Ryder said: “It doesn’t sound like the Mondays or Black Grape or Oasis or The Who, it’s what we’re doing all together.”

Commenting on the release date of the as-yet-untitled record, Ryder added: "It’s coming out very soon. We’re doing Glastonbury with Mantra Of The Cosmos this year. It’s coming out pretty soon.”

Shaun Ryder recently guest appeared on The Lottery Winners’ track 'Money', which is lifted from their new studio album ‘Anxiety Replacement Therapy.' The album is expected to reach Number 1 on Friday.
