Shane MacGowan’s wife Victoria Clarke has shared an update on his condition after the legendary Pogues leader was hospitalised last Friday (2nd December).

Victoria Clarke first broke the news of Shane’s hospitalisation on Twitter on Monday when she urged his fans to “send prayers.”

She wrote: “Please send prayers and healing vibes to @ShaneMacGowan in hospital again and really hoping to get out asap!! Thank you 🙏”

Last night, Clarke revealed that the 64-year-old ‘Fairytale of New York’ and ‘Dirty Old Town’ singer is suffering from an infection.

Clarke tweeted: “I just wanted to thank everyone who has been sending good wishes for @ShaneMacGowan, he is being treated for an infection and the doctors are confident that he will be ok. I am just incredibly grateful to them and to all of you 💗💗💗💗💗💗”

She added earlier today: “So many positive vibes and prayers for @ShaneMacGowan it is really really amazing how lovely people are and how kind and thoughtful 💗”

Shane MacGowan has sadly suffered a series of health setbacks in recent years.

In 2015, he broke his pelvis in a fall and the following year he was hospitalised with a serious bout of pneumonia.

MacGowan suffered another fall in early 2021 and broke his knee and tore ligaments in the joint. He currently uses a wheelchair.

MacGowan and Clarke have been a couple for 35 years and they tied the knot in 2018 following an 11-year engagement.

Everyone at Absolute Radio wishes Shane MacGowan a full and speedy recovery.
