Taylor Hawkins’ 16-year-old son, Shane, joined Foo Fighters on stage at London’s Wembley Stadium last night (3rd September) to play drums on a highly emotional ‘My Hero’.

Foo Fighters’ headline set at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert saw a number of drummers perform with the band – Josh Freese, blink-182’s Travis Barker, drumming prodigy Nandi Bushell, The Darkness’ Rufus Taylor, and Omar Hakim.

Ahead of the penultimate song of the night, Dave Grohl introduced Shane Hawkins to the 90,000 strong Wembley crowd as a poignant photo of the father and son flashed on the screens.

Dave said: “Ladies and gentlemen, we have one more drummer that’s going to come up and play with us.

“And let me tell you I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone hit the drums as hard as this person, but beyond that, he’s a member of our family.

“And he needs to be here tonight with all of us, and I think it makes sense that he’s going to come up and play with us tonight.

“Ladies and gentlemen, would you please welcome Mr Shane Hawkins on the drums.”

With Shane echoing his late dad’s energy behind the kit, Foo Fighters and Shane launched into a powerful rendition of the band’s 1997 anthem ‘My Hero.’

The band were also joined by surprise guest Paul McCartney and Chrissie Hynde for covers of The Beatles ‘Oh Darlin’ and ‘Helter Skelter’, and the set concluded with Dave Grohl performing a solo version of ‘Everlong.’

Other performers throughout the evening included AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, The Darkness’ Justin Hawkins, Rush’s Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, Violet Grohl and many more.
