Watch Sam Fender worse for wear on BBC Breakfast after celebrating Newcastle takeover

Sam Fender appeared on BBC Breakfast this morning “really, really hungover” after celebrating his beloved football team Newcastle United’s takeover.

After Newcastle was bought by billionaire Saudi Arabian investors yesterday (7th October), Sam and his saxophonist Johnny 'Blue Hat' Davis travelled up to St James’ Park to party with thousands of fans outside the ground and at The Strawberry pub.

Davis even treated the fans to a rendition of Newcastle’s anthem ‘Going Home: Theme of the Local Hero’ by Mark Knopfler.

Despite partying late into the night, Sam had to be up bright and early this morning for a BBC Breakfast interview in Salford to celebrate the release of his critically acclaimed second album ‘Seventeen Going Under.’

Wearing the same Newcastle tracksuit top he wore last night, a bleary-eyed Sam told the BBC presenters (with a noticeably dry mouth): "We did Jools Holland and went straight up to St James'.

“My saxophone player, Johnny, got on the statue, played Local Hero, and 5,000 Geordies just started singing along... because (Mike) Ashley's out.

"I did about a thousand selfies, got proper mobbed, but everybody was absolutely class and gave us a lot of cans, and I'm really hungover. I'm really, really hungover.

"But, well, yee kna, these things happen, don't they?"

He added: “It’s obviously quite a contentious situation as well but I’m just really happy for the fans and I’m happy for the city and I’m happy for what might come of it.”

Charlie Stayt later congratulated Sam for making the show despite his big night out and then asked him how he made his ‘Seventeen Going Under’ video where he appears to be soaring high through the streets.

Revealing he was stood on a platform, Sam said: “I turned up and I thought it's a bad time to tell the director that I get vertigo.

"I was just tethered at the bottom of the platform with a cable and I could walk around on it, but it was really wobbly.

"I had to pretend that I was totally fine - and not absolutely cr*g myself."

When the presenter jokingly warned him about his language, Sam replied: "I didn't realise that was a swear word anymore!"

Featuring the Absolute Radio playlisted anthems ‘Seventeen Going Under’ and ‘Get You Down’ plus new track 'Spit Of You', Sam Fender’s second studio album ‘Seventeen Going Under’ is released this Friday (8th October).

Sam has also lined up a headline UK & Ireland arena tour for March and April 2022 plus an outdoor show in Manchester.
