Watch Rick Astley belt out cover of Foo Fighters' 'Everlong'
We've been Rick-Grohlled
Eighties chart conqueror Rick Astley has shared a rousing acoustic cover of Foo Fighters’ 1997 anthem ‘Everlong’.
The ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ singer uploaded his version of the Foos track to YouTube over the weekend, and it has already amassed over 1.4million views.
In the clip, Astley says: “Sometimes you just have to find a song that’s gonna lift your spirits and put you in another place, and I’ve been doing that a lot recently with music and one of the bands I always go to, believe it or not, is Foo Fighters. Here’s my version of a song of theirs called ‘Everlong’.
Astley then proceeds to belt out ‘Everlong’ armed with an acoustic guitar and does an impressive job. Undoubtedly the highlight comes when he beckons his imaginary audience with a “come on!”.

The lockdown version of ‘Everlong’ isn’t the first time Rick Astley has covered the track – it has appeared in the setlist at 11 of his shows over the past three years.
Back in August 2017, Rick Astley hit the headlines when he guest performed with Foo Fighters at Summer Sonic Festival in Tokyo, Japan.
Foo Fighters were reaching the climax of their Marine Stage headline set when they invited Astley on stage and launching Nirvana’s seminal anthem ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ before the track slowly morphed into Astley’s (in)famous song ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’.
The Foos and Astley later reprised the collaboration at London's The O2 in 2017, and London's Moth Club and Reading Festival in 2019.
Gargantuan fans of Rick Astley, back in August 2015, Foo Fighters Rickrolled fundamental Christian protestors from the Westboro Baptist Church when they held a demonstration outside a Foos gig in Kansas.
The band drove in on the back of a pick-up truck to the sounds of ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ while holding signs reading Keep it Clean and ‘You Got Rick Roll’d Again’ on Sunday. The protestors, holding typically provocative signs, looked on stunned.
Foo Fighters also sang Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ during their appearance on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke in 2017.
