A month after series 5 ended on a nail-biting cliffhanger, the first official Peaky Blinders soundtrack album has been announced.
‘Peaky Blinders – OST Series 1 – 5 Soundtrack’ will be released on triple vinyl and 2CD formats on Friday 15th November via UMC, and it will intersperse key clips of dialogue from all 5 series the show alongside brilliant songs played throughout the five series.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ title song ‘Red Right Hand’ will, of course, feature alongside an exclusive PJ Harvey version of the 1994 track. Additionally, PJ Harvey’s ‘This Is Love’ is included alongside two further Nick Cave tracks, ‘Breathless’ and ‘The Mercy Seat’.
Radiohead have two songs on the album – ‘You and Whose Army?’ and ‘Pyramid Song’ – with Arctic Monkeys (‘Do I Wanna Know?’), David Bowie (‘Lazarus’), Foals (‘Snake Oil’), Black Sabbath (‘The Wizard’), The Last Shadow Puppets (‘Bad Habits’), The White Stripes (‘St James Infirmary Blues’), Queens of the Stone Age (‘Burn The Witch’) and Joy Division (‘Atmosphere’) also featuring.
Together with the aforementioned never-heard-before PJ Harvey cover of ‘Red Right Hand’, exclusively on the album are Jehnny Beth’s ‘I’m The Man’ and Anna Calvi’s series 5 score, ‘You’re Not God’, along with Richard Hawley’s cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Ballad of A Thin Man’ on CD and vinyl for the first time.
Set in 1920s Birmingham, Peaky Blinders is renowned for its dark and dramatic soundtrack, acting as a window into the mind of Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) – a mentally tortured ex-soldier who suffers from PTSD after the experiencing atrocities in World War One.
The 2CD version of the album comes complete with a 32-page book with images from the show, behind the scenes notes from journalist Phil Harrison, quotes from the cast and ‘The Chap’ magazine in conversation with Peaky Blinders’ Costume Designer, Alison McCosh.
