New Order have announced a gargantuan homecoming show at Manchester’s Heaton Park next summer.

Following in the footsteps of The Stone Roses, Oasis and Courteeners who have all played landmark shows at Heaton Park, New Order will play the Manchester municipal park on Friday 10th September 2021.

The concert will be New Order’s first show in Manchester in four years and one of their biggest shows of the past two decades. Special guests at Heaton Park will be Hot Chip and Working Men’s Club.

Tickets to New Order at Heaton Park go on sale from Absolute Radio Tickets at 9am on Thursday 10th December 2020.

New Order said: “The connection between ourselves and Manchester has played a pivotal role in who we are as a band. We have countless memories from across the city, from our early days starting out, and beyond.

“We promise to bring a celebration like no other to Heaton Park in 2021, and we can’t wait to see everyone come together for a night we’ll never forget.”

Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor adds: “We’ve learnt a lot from New Order (including how Bernard likes his tea), and they have made some incredible music, marrying the emotional with the electronic, a synthetic, at times icy beauty with rawness and pop melody, and they’ve certainly influenced us, as well as us sharing some of the same influences that have informed their music, like Chicago House, Detroit Techno, or Italo Disco. But they’re always proudly themselves, and it will be a great honour to play on the same bill with them, in their hometown, and for us to be back on stage in Manchester. Can’t wait!”

The Manchester concert precedes New Order’s previously announced rescheduled show at London’s The O2 on Saturday 6th November.

In September, New Order premiered their first piece of new music in five years, the uplifting electro-pop track ‘Be a Rebel’.

Vocalist, guitarist and co-founder Bernard Sumner said of the track: “In tough times we wanted to reach out with a new song. We can’t play live for a while, but music is still something we can all share together.”

The band’s tenth studio album ‘Music Complete’ topped the UK album chart when it was released in September 2015. It featured guest slots from The Killers’ Brandon Flowers on ‘Superheated’, Iggy Pop (‘Stray Dog’) and La Roux’s Elly Jackson (‘Tutti Frutti’ and ‘People on the High Line’).
