Morrissey has launched a fresh attack on his former band mate Johnny Marr accusing him of blocking the release of two Smiths albums.

Taking to his official website on Wednesday (11th September), 65-year-old Morrissey posted the artwork of the proposed album called ‘Smiths Rule OK,’ which features an early 80s photo of himself, Johnny Marr, Mike Joyce and the late-great Andy Rourke.

“The proposed greatest hits album by The Smiths entitled Smiths Rule OK! has been blocked by J Marr,” Morrissey wrote.

After sharing the new artwork of lead single ‘Hand in Glove’, Morrissey continued: “The album, and also the single ‘Hand In Glove’, were planned for 2024 worldwide release by Warner Records along with a deluxe box release of The Smiths first album in order to commemorate its 40-year anniversary, and also a new 7-inch of This Charming Man.

“Warner approached Morrissey and Darren Evans to assemble artwork for all four releases, all of which were rejected and halted out of hand by J Marr.”

The statement comes two weeks after Morrissey claimed he had agreed to a Smiths reunion tour in 2025, but Johnny Marr snubbed the lucrative offer.

“In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as 'The Smiths' throughout 2025,” the post read.

“Morrissey said Yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer.”

Taking a swipe at his former band mate, the statement continued: “Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November.

“Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.”

When Oasis reunited last month, one fan asked Johnny Marr on X if he’d reunite The Smiths. The guitarist simply replied with a picture of Reform MP Nigel Farage – an apparent nod to Morrissey’s supposed political leanings.
