Metallica kick off the M72 Tour in Amsterdam – photos and setlist

Metallica kicked off their M72 Tour at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam last night (27th April) with a setlist featuring live debuts and classic tracks.

The heavy metal titans’ show at the 56,000 capacity Johan Cruijff ArenA was the first of two concerts at the venue, with the band returning on Saturday night (29th April).

Metallica’s multi-year trek sees them play two nights at every location with each No Repeat Weekend featuring two completely different setlists and support line-ups.

The tour also features a bold new in-the-round stage design that relocates the famed Metallica Snake Pit to centre stage.

Last night (27th April), Metallica opened their career-spanning set with ‘Orion’ for the first time in 12 years, and the 16-song performance culminated with ‘Master of Puppets.’

‘72 Seasons’ tracks ‘Screaming Suicide’ and ‘Sleepwalk My Life Away’ both had their live debut, while seminal songs that featured elsewhere included ‘For Who the Bell Tolls’, ‘Fade to Black’, ‘Battery’, ‘Seek & Destroy’, ‘Nothing Else Matters’ and ‘Ride the Lightning’.

Metallica’s M72 Tour also features two headline sets at Download Festival on Thursday 8th and Saturday 10th June.
