Listen to Manic Street Preachers' euphoric new single 'Decline & Fall'
Excellent stuff
Oasis may be hogging the headlines with their reunion, however fellow 90s music icons Manic Street Preachers have also burst to the fore this week with their new song ‘Decline & Fall.’
Belying the somewhat ominous title, James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire and Sean Moore’s first new song in three years is an upbeat anthem imbued with optimism and buoyed by swirling keyboards.
A description of the track reads: ‘With musical inspiration from all time Manics favourites The Skids, Gran Turismo era The Cardigans alongside the driving pulse of The War on Drugs, ‘Decline & Fall’ is fully energised and utterly euphoric, a joyous anthem for an era of self-hatred.’
Listen to Manic Street Preachers' 'Decline & Fall':
Manic Street Preachers said of the song: “Musically with ‘Decline & Fall’ we tried to create forward motion - a song which harnesses the past to propel it into the future - the lyric is one of realisation and understanding - of celebrating the tiny miracles that still exist whilst accepting and embracing managed decline.”
The song was recorded at the Manics’ Door To The River studio in Newport and Rockfield Studios, Monmouth, it was produced by regular collaborators Dave Eringa and Loz Williams and mixed by Caesar Edmunds (Beach House/Suede/Wet Leg).
Manic Street Preachers recently wrapped up a rapturously received co-headline tour. Their last studio album 'The Ultra Vivid Lament' charted at Number 1 in September 2021.
