Liam Gallagher has exclusively told Absolute Radio that he has two new studio albums in the works.

The Oasis icon joined Dave Berry on the Absolute Radio breakfast show today (20th August) ahead of his headline appearance at Isle of Wight Festival next month, and Dave asked Liam if he’s in the studio working on the follow-up to 2019’s ‘Why Me? Why Not.’

“I have been in the studio on and off during the pandemic and that,” Liam told Dave. “So I’ve sort of been doing bits and bobs, I've kind of got two albums on the go – I’ve got one that’s a bit mad and one that’s a bit more like whatever normal is… a bit more classic.

“We’re just going to wait and see which one we should put out. I’ve been busy, man. So, I can’t wait to get these gigs out of the way and next year I’m going to own it! It’s mine!”

Commenting on whether the new material embraces his love of punk music, Liam said: “There's a few punky… there’s a few like foot to the floor tunes on it and that but I just think 10 songs of (just punk music) would do your nut in wouldn’t it?!

“We’ve got one (album) on the go that’s a bit odd and peculiar, but the songs are still great. There's a bit of dub reggae in there, but not to the point where I'm walking around with dreadlocks or I've got braids. I've not gone down that road where I’ve braided my hair but there’s a whiff of it, y’know what I mean?! On one tune anyway there’s a whiff.

“I’m buzzing for next year. I’m obviously buzzing to finish this year off on a nice note, as they say.”

Elsewhere during the chat, Liam revealed that he didn’t have a very hands-on approach when working as executive producer on Oasis’ upcoming Oasis Knebworth 1996 documentary.

“Here’s how hands on I was – I’ve done nothing!,” Liam laughed. “I'm not even in it. I mean I'm in the film but I’m not having a talking head over it. We did that with Supersonic (2016 Oasis documentary).

“The film speaks for itself. It’s like the fans and the music, you don't need me rabbiting on going ‘oh yeah mate, it was mega.’ So, I say my little bit at the end. That's my graft is staying out of it, there's an art in not getting too involved.”

He added: “Obviously, Noel and Bonehead are rabbiting all the way through it like two old women. I was like ‘no, I’ve done that. I did that on Supersonic, I'm staying out of it. I want people to just watch the film and enjoy the experience.’ That’s my kind of producing work, do nothing! (laughs) Less is more, as they say.”

Asked about his memories of the Knebworth weekend 25 years ago, Liam told Dave: “I can't remember much about it, but I'll never forget it if you know what I mean?

“I knew it was going to be big, but that did not scare me one bit. I mean, as we were flying over the field I was going, ‘surely we could get some more people in that field next door?! And that field over there. Why is there loads of empty fields?! What’s going on here?!’

“That’s where my head was at, I was going ‘listen mate, get Marcus (Russell from Ignition Management) on the phone here and we’ll sell more tickets. Loads of fields around it are empty. I’m sure we could squeeze a few more people in.’”
