Liam Gallagher dedicated ‘Live Forever’ to his late-great friend Taylor Hawkins at his Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall concert on Saturday night (26th March)
Shortly before launching into his penultimate song of the night, Taylor Hawkins’ face appeared on the screens at the Royal Albert Hall and Gallagher told the capacity crowd: “I dedicate this last song to the one and only Taylor f---ing Hawkins. This is for you, brother.”
Gallagher then proceeded to perform an emotionally charged rendition of Oasis’ seminal anthem ‘Live Forever.’

Taylor Hawkins died on Friday evening (25th March) a few hours before Foo Fighters were due to headline Festival Estereo Picnic in Bogotá, Colombia. A cause of death hasn’t been revealed.
Liam Gallagher and Taylor Hawkins were close friends and the Oasis legend tweeted after Hawkins’ death: “Absolutely devastated to hear the sad news about Taylor Hawkins my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends RIP brother LG x”
Hawkins was a huge Oasis fan and even performed with a picture of Noel and Liam Gallagher on his drum kit at Reading Festival in 2019.
Speaking to Absolute Radio’s Claire Sturgess in 2019, Taylor Hawkins joked that Gallagher would make a great Prime Minister.
“I bought his thousand-dollar Parka today. It’s pretty amazing. I told Liam ‘I just spent a thousand dollars on one of your jackets’. He goes (badly mimics Liam’s accent) ‘Ah no, don’t do that man! It’s my ultimate mission to get you American boys looking cool.’ Or, looking ‘irie’, he said.
“I said ‘well then, I’ll send you a box of surf trunks. It’s my ultimate to get you English boys looking cool at the beach.”
Laughing, Hawkins added: “Liam Gallagher for Prime Minister… not Noel.”
He continued: “I love that Liam Gallagher thing where he has to makes the tea for himself. (Does Liam’s accent) ‘I used to have people do this for me yernowotimean?’ Now he has got to make his own tea… No, I think he’s got a tea maker now. He’s got two nights sold out at The O2 Arena, I’m so happy for him.
“I would definitely be happy to have a Liam Gallagher cup of tea. A cuppa. And then just listen to him talk, it’s the best.”
Liam Gallagher’s setlist at the Royal Albert Hall also featured his son Gene Gallagher on drums on ‘The River’, the live debut of ‘C'mon You Know’ and a rare performance of ‘Bring the Light’ by Beady Eye.
Absolute Radio will be broadcasting highlights of Liam Gallagher's Teenage Cancer Trust concert at 7pm on Thursday 7th April 2022.
