Johnny Marr is recording James Bond: No Time To Die score with Hans Zimmer
This will be good!
Smiths legend Johnny Marr has revealed he’s working on the score to the new James Bond movie No Time To Die with composer Hans Zimmer.
The twenty-fifth instalment in the James Bond film franchise, No Time To Die is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective, Maniac, Beasts of No Nation) and is due to premiere at UK cinemas on 2nd April 2020.
Last week it was announced that prolific composer Hans Zimmer will be making the score for the eagerly awaited movie, and now Johnny Marr has confirmed he’s joining him too.
Marr told NME: “Part of the legacy of the Bond films is iconic music, so I’m very happy to be bringing my guitar to No Time To Die.”
Johnny Marr and Hans Zimmer:
No Time To Die isn’t the first musical collaboration between Hans Zimmer and Johnny Marr.
Back in 2010, Marr played guitar on Zimmer’s critically lauded score for Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster movie Inception, and they worked together again four years later on The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Then in 2015 Marr and Zimmer co-composed the soundtrack for the 2015 movie Freeheld starring Juliuan Moore, Ellen Page and Michael Shannon.
Marr has played live with Zimmer a number of times including at the composer's Hammersmith Apollo shows in 2014 and at the premiere of Christopher Nolan’s Inception in 2010.
In spring 2016, Marr guested on guitar with Zimmer at his concerts at London's The SSE Arena, Wembley, Manchester Arena and Dublin's 3Arena.
Earlier this week, teenage music sensation Billie Eilish was revealed as the singer of the No Time To Die title song.
Eilish co-wrote ‘No Time To Die’ alongside her older brother Finneas O'Connell (aka FINNEAS) and, at 18 years old, she’s the youngest artist in James Bond’s six-decade history to wrote and record the theme song.
Commenting on the honour, Eilish said: “It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way. To be able to score the theme song to a film that is part of such a legendary series is a huge honour. James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist. I’m still in shock”.
Daniel Craig's final James Bond movie:
No Time To Die is Daniel Craig’s fifth and final outing as James Bond and it stars Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear, Jeffrey Wright, Léa Seydoux, and Christoph Waltz who all reprise their roles from previous films.
Bohemian Rhapsody actor Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, and Ana de Armas have also joined the cast.
The screenplay was written by Cary Joji Fukunaga alongside Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
