How you listen to Absolute Radio could be changing
We're saying goodbye to AM.
Last updated 4th Jan 2023
How you listen to Absolute Radio could be changing. From 23rd January, we will no longer be broadcasting on AM radio. But don’t worry, there are plenty of other ways to listen to all your favourite Absolute Radio stations. Find all the details here.
If you currently listen to us on AM then we know you might have some questions and we’ve tried our best to answer them all below:
What is AM radio and how do I know if I am listening to you on it?
AM or ‘medium wave’ is a way of broadcasting radio transmissions – in fact it was the first method ever used for radio, followed by FM and more recently digital radio.
If you have a DAB radio, listen to us on your smart speaker, on your digital TV, on our website or via our app then this change doesn’t affect you and there’s nothing you need to do. We know that some of you still enjoy listening to us on AM, and we’re sorry that this change means you will need to find alternative ways to listen.
I only own an AM radio player and I have AM radio in my car. Does this mean I’ll no longer be able to listen to Absolute Radio?
Don’t worry, there are lots of ways you can access Absolute Radio via digital now - you can find out more in our how to listen page here.
We understand that changing to digital may require purchasing a new device, so we’re giving you the chance to win your own Histon DAB Radio right here.
Why are you stopping broadcasting on AM?
We think we sound better on digital, as it offers a much stronger signal and cuts out background noise.
Lots of you agree, which is why nearly all our audience listen to us digitally. Broadcasting on AM requires running an additional transmitter which is environmentally unfriendly and not cost-efficient given the small numbers of those listening here.
We’re sorry for those affected by the change, but we hope you find an alternative listening experience that works for you.
