On the eve of their UK stadium tour going on sale, Green Day played a surprise and ultra-intimate show to around 100 lucky punters at a London boozer last night (Thursday 9th November).

Billed as Busk Till Dawn inside the venue, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool took to the corner of the Marquis pub in Covent Garden at around 10pm and proceeded to belt out a 13-song acoustic set featuring some of their biggest anthems.

After opening with ‘Welcome to Paradise’, songs given the stripped back treatment by Green Day included current single ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’, ‘Basket Case’, ‘Minority’ and set closer ‘American Idiot.’

Earlier in the day Tré Cool posted a cryptic message on Instagram, reading: “Right now, Green Day’s in London, looking to have us some fun then. If I were the fans, I wouldn’t make plans. Keep all your cellies plugged in.”

The entire 40-minute pub gig was livestreamed on Green Day’s Instagram account, and you can watch it in full below.

Back in May, Billie Joe Armstrong surprised drinkers at a London pub by taking to the stage with a local alt-rock band.

London-based band called Borderline Toxic were performing at Slim Jim’s Liquor Store on Upper Street in Angel, Islington when Billie Joe Armstrong stepped up on stage and belted out Green Day’s seminal 1994 anthem ‘Basket Case’ alongside vocalist Kerry Glass.

Green Day shared the footage to their own YouTube account, and wrote: “When you walk into a pub and the cover band starts playing your song.”
