As part of the ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations for their landmark third album ‘Dookie’, Green Day are releasing a ‘demastered’ version of the album on 15 “obscure, obsolete, and otherwise inconvenient formats.”

Explaining that this is “the way ‘Dookie’ was never meant to be heard.” all 15 songs on ‘Dookie’ are being issued on their own unique antiquated format, from ‘Basket Case’ on the singing fish Big Mouth Billy Bass to ‘Chump’ on talking bear Teddy Ruxpin.

Other songs and formats include ‘Pulling Teeth’ aptly on a toothbrush with a crackly built-in speaker, ‘Welcome To Paradise’ on Game Boy cartridge, and ‘When I Come Around’ on wax cylinder.

There’s also ‘Having A Blast’ on floppy disc, ‘Longview’ on doorbell, ‘Emenius Sleepus’ on answering machine, ‘All By Myself’ on music box, ‘F.O.D.’ on Fisher Price Record player, and ‘In The End’ on minidisc.

Green Day fans can enter a draw for the chance to purchase one of the 15 tracks on the Dookie Demastered website.

Explaining the idea behind demastering ‘Dookie’, Green Day write: “When an album hits a big milestone like its 30th anniversary, it gets the usual remasters on the usual formats. But ‘Dookie’ isn't a usual album.

“Instead of smoothing out its edges and tweaking its dynamic ranges, this version of Dookie has been meticulously mangled to fit on formats with uncompromisingly low fidelity, from wax cylinders to answering machines to toothbrushes. The listening experience is unparalleled, sacrificing not only sonic quality, but also convenience, and occasionally entire verses.

“The result is Dookie Demastered: the album that exploded the format of punk rock, re-exploded onto 15 obscure, obsolete, and otherwise inconvenient formats, the way it was never meant to be heard.”
