Foo Fighters played the first concert at New York’s world-famous Madison Square Garden since the start of the coronavirus pandemic last night (20th June).

The sextet’s sold out show at the 20,789 capacity venue followed their intimate warm-up club gig at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, California last week.

Opening with ‘Times Like These’ and concluding with ‘Everlong’, Foo Fighters’ sprawling 24-song set featured their first ever cover of Radiohead’s 1993 anthem ‘Creep’ featuring comedy powerhouse Dave Chapelle on vocals.

Introducing Dave Chappelle, Dave Grohl said: “I know a few Daves, right. But I gotta be honest, my favourite f---ing Dave is here tonight to sing a song with us – something that we’ve never done before and he’s never played with us, so we figured why not try this s--- out in front of you!

“Ladies and gentlemen, would you please welcome on lead vocals… Dave Chappelle!”

Later on in the set, Foo Fighters also gave their cover of The Bee Gees’ ‘You Should Be Dancing’ its live debut.

The track is one of four Bee Gees covers that features on Foo Fighters’ new disco album ‘Hail Satin’, which is released under their alter ego The Dee Gees for Record Store Day on 17th July.

Just like their Agoura Hills concert five days earlier, Foo Fighters’ Madison Square Garden gig was met with protests from Anti-vaxxers outside. Ticketholders had to show proof of vaccination to gain entry.
