Foals have premiered their brand-new song ‘2am’ from their upcoming seventh studio album ‘Life Is Yours.’

Following last year’s Absolute Radio playlisted anthem ‘Wake Me Up’, ‘2am’ is a euphoric pop banger that embraces dance-tinged grooves, yet it’s still stamped with Foals’ indelible imprint throughout.

Foals singer Yannis Philippakis says: “Musically ‘2am’ is one of the poppiest songs we’ve ever written. It’s about repetitive cycles of destructive behaviour, which I think lots of people can relate to, and certainly it’s an expression of something that I struggle with.

“There’s something cathartic about putting that to this joyous, upbeat song that’s got a sense of release.”

Listen to Foals' '2am':

‘2am’ was produced by John Hill (Portugal The Man, Florence + The Machine, Cage The Elephant ) and Dan Carey (Tame Impala, Fontaines D.C.), and recorded during sessions at Real World Studios, Bath and Carey’s studio in south London.

The band then drafted in ten-time Grammy Award winner Manny Marroquin (Post Malone, Kanye West, Rihanna) to mix the record.

Foals’ Yannis Philippakis, Jimmy Smith and Jack Bevan began writing ‘Life Is Yours’ in the winter lockdown of 2020 and continued into the spring and summer 2021. These changes in seasons directly affected the musical direction of the record.

A description reads: ‘Having written the album in the bleak, brisk winter, the songs were recorded as the ambience shifted to the spring and summer months.

‘Appropriately for an album which explores elements of rebirth, Foals approached the recording process in an entirely new way.

‘There are different configurations of producers, mixers and studios used on each track, an approach which crafted a creative cohesion from a multitude of collaborative voices.’

Foals play a series of largely sold out shows this April and May before playing huge outdoor shows in Dublin, Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow in the summer.
