Don Henley dedicated Eagles’ performance of ‘The Boys of Summer’ to Taylor Hawkins at American Express presents BST Hyde Park last night (26th June).

As Eagles began to play the opening notes of his 1984 solo song, Don Henley told the BST Hyde Park audience: “This one is for our brother Taylor Hawkins.”

Eagles treated their fans to a career-spanning 23-song on The Great Oak Stage that featured tracks including ‘Take It To The Limit’, ‘Heartache Tonight’, ‘Life In The Fast Lane’ and, of course, ‘Hotel California.’

With the sun still shining on Hyde Park, Don Henley said at the start of the evening: “We are glad to see your smiling faces. We are glad to be back. We’re glad you’re back.

“Our mission this evening is to give you a two-hour vacation from all the headlines and the chaos that’s happening in the world… So sit back, relax and enjoy the music.”

The Los Angeles band - Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit - were joined on stage by Vince Gill for the performance, while former guitarist Deacon Frey, son of the late-great Glenn Frey, guest performed with the band just like he did at Anfield last week.

Deacon joined Eagles to perform vocals and guitar on ‘Peaceful Easy Feeling’ and ‘Take It Easy.’

The surprise finale ‘Already Gone’ also featured Deacon Frey alongside tennis legend John McEnroe on guitar and Patty Smyth on tambourine/ backing vocals.
