Watch Dave Grohl perform Foo Fighters songs at Coachella with huge orchestra
He made a surprise appearance at the Californian festival
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl made a surprise appearance on the Outdoor Theatre Stage at Coachella on Saturday evening (19th April).
1\0 songs into Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s sunset set at the Californian festival, Dave Grohl walked onstage with his trademark blue Epiphone guitar and launched into a unique rendition of Foo Fighters’ 2017 track ‘The Sky Is a Neighborhood’ alongside the voluminous orchestra and a gospel choir.
Grohl and the LA Phil then performed a string-tastic version of the 1997 Foo Fighters classic ‘Everlong’ – a track Foo Fighters end their sets with – before Grohl exited to polite applause from the muted Coachella crowd.

After playing Richard Strauss’ ‘Also Sprach Zarathustra’, Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil were then joined by Wicked actor Cynthia Erivo for set closers ‘Brick by Brick’ and ‘Purple Rain.’
Back in January, Dave Grohl reunited with Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and touring guitarist Pat Smear to perform Nirvana classics at the FireAid Benefit Concert in California.
St. Vincent took on vocal and guitar duties on ‘Nevermind’ track ‘Breed’, before Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon fronted the band for early Nirvana classic ‘School’. Joan Jett then joined Nirvana to tear through the gloriously heavy ‘Territorial Pissings’.
The 15-minute Nirvana set was Dave Grohl’s first public performance since he admitted to fathering a child outside of his marriage, and, notably, the performance ended with his daughter Violet Grohl singing on an ‘Unplugged’ version of ‘All Apologies’.
Less than three weeks later, Nirvana reunited again at Saturday Night Live’s 50th birthday bash at New York’s Radio City Music Hall for a version of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ with Post Malone.
Coachella was the first time Dave Grohl has publicly performed Foo Fighters songs since last summer.
