Coldplay won't tour new album 'Everyday Life' due to environmental concerns
They want their next tour to be carbon neutral
Coldplay won’t be touring their new studio album ‘Everyday Life’ over concerns about their concerts’ environmental impact.
Earlier this week, Coldplay announced a very special one-off show at London’s Natural History Museum next Monday (25th November) with proceeds going to environmental charity ClientEarth.
Leaving fans guessing, the press release promoting the concert stated it’s “expected to be the band’s only UK show of the ‘Everyday Life’ era.”
In a fresh interview with the BBC News, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin explained they’re not touring ‘Everyday Life’ as they’re "taking time to see how our tour can be actively beneficial."
"All of us have to work out the best way of doing our job," Chris added, and he expressed his wish that future tours will "have a positive impact" on the environment.
Reflecting upon Coldplay’s massive A Head Full of Dreams Tour, which took in 122 shows across five continents from March 2016 to November 2017, Chris said: "Our next tour will be the best possible version of a tour like that environmentally. We would be disappointed if it's not carbon neutral.
"We've done a lot of big tours at this point. How do we turn it around so it's no so much taking as giving?"
Prior to the London show next week, Coldplay are playing two shows in the Jordanian capital Amman tomorrow (22nd November) – one at sunrise and one at sunset to reflect the two discs on double album ‘Everyday Life’, which comes out on the same day.
The two concerts will be live streamed on YouTube.
Chris said the band are playing Amman as they “wanted to pick somewhere in the middle of the world where we normally don't get to play."
In other Coldplay news, the band have released two new songs from ‘Everyday Life’ called ‘Daddy’ and ‘Champion Of The World’.
‘Daddy’ is accompanied by a visually striking animated video, created by Aardman Animations and directed by Åsa Lucander.
The video offers an atmospheric journey through a girl’s fragmented memory about her father. It uses live action puppetry, digitally painted sets and 2D animation to create a tapestry of styles.
The second new song, ‘Champion Of The World’, is co-written by the writers of Owl John’s Los Angeles Be Kind, including Scott Hutchison of Frightened Rabbit who sadly died in May 2018.
Chris Martin comments: "Scott had a song called Los Angeles Be Kind, which I love. When I first heard it, I thought it was going to go one way; but it went another.
“Anyway, ‘Champion Of The World’ is the song that came from following the other path, and that’s why Scott is a co-writer on this song. Today is also his birthday. So happy birthday Scott and Thank you for your beautiful music, wherever you are.”
Coldplay’s Sunrise concert in Amman will begin at 4am GMT tomorrow (22nd November), with the Sunset concert following at 2pm GMT.
