Mysterious poster hints at 'experimental' new Coldplay album

Rumours of an “experimental” new Coldplay album have gained traction after a mysterious poster emerged in Sao Paulo this week.

Earlier this month, it was reported that a new Coldplay album will land in November that will focus on the “more experimental side of the band.”

Echoing the release pattern of 2014’s stripped back and electronic tinged ‘Ghost Stories’ and 2015’s blockbuster ‘A Head Full of Dreams’, it’s rumoured that a mainstream pop record will follow relatively soon after the more oblique long-player.

Coldplay fans in Brazil took to social media on Monday (14th October) to share a vintage poster that mysteriously appeared at a subway in Brazil’s largest city, Sao Paulo.

Dated November 22nd, 1919, the grainy black-and-white poster depicts Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion in period clobber and clutching instruments including violins and banjos.

Intriguingly, alongside them is a man who bears a striking resemblance to famed German philosopher, poet, and composer Friedrich Nietzsche, who, somewhat confusingly, died in 1900.

Fans are now speculating that the Coldplay record will land on 22nd November 2019 – exactly a century on from the date depicted in the photo.

In keeping with the low-key nature of ‘Ghost Stories’, Coldplay only played nine intimate shows in support of it in 2014, including two nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Coldplay's major A Head Full of Dreams Tour in 2016 to 2017 took in 122 arena and stadium shows across five continents and was attended by 5.39 million people.
