Watch: Red Hot Chili Peppers play Olympics closing ceremony

Few bands embody the spirit of, or indeed go on about California quite as much as the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

It was entirely fitting, then, that the band helped transition the Olympic handover from 2024 host city Paris to 2028 hosts Los Angeles.

The Chilis played a typically energetic rendition of ‘Can’t Stop’ in front of a live audience on Venice Beach.

The Chilis’ performance followed a segment that saw Hollywood star Tom Cruise abseiling from the roof of the Stade de France in Paris before grabbing the Olympic flag and jumping onto a motorbike.

Several other LA-based artists performed on the Venice Beach stage as part of the closing ceremony, including Billie Eilish, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg – who had also been prominent in Paris throughout the 2024 games.

The Chili Peppers have also collaborated with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics organisers on a special version of the LA 2028 branding featuring the band's own iconic logo.

In a promo vid, Anthony Kiedis says: "The Red Hot Chili Peppers at our essence, we like to get in a room and make noise. And bring everything that we experience in life into what we do, and LA is definitely one of those dimensions.

“There's still a reason why everyone is fascinated by everything LA."
