We were extremely excited when Absolute Radio’s Andy Bush and Richie Firth hosted our very first 24 Hour Jukebox on 30th September, to help raise vital funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.

Bush & Richie’s 24 Hour Jukebox marathon kicked off at 10am on Thursday 30th September 2021 and the colossal show continued through to 10am on Friday 1st October 2021.

Just like the Hometime Jukebox, which airs every Friday on Absolute Radio from 4pm, Bush & Richie called on YOU, our legendary listeners, to take control of the playlist throughout the 24-hour show and choose your favourite songs.

The epic 24 Hour Jukebox show also boasted live performances from Welsh music legends Manic Street Preachers and indie rock icons The Vaccines, plus Bush & Richie were joined by a host of celebrity guests for a chat including Tom Grennan, Jimmy Carr and Joe Wicks.

We also heared the stories of young people and their families who have directly benefitted from Teenage Cancer Trust’s incredible work.

“We are really excited to be hosting an Absolute Radio first with the 24 Hour Jukebox," said Bush and Richie. “Our listeners have the best taste in music, and we’re looking forward to being able to play a ton of songs that will make our music team angry. We’re also going to have a few surprises over the 24 hours with special guests and world-famous artists joining us, and whilst having fun we hope to raise as much money as possible for such a cause that is very close to the Absolute Radio family’s heart.”

The Who's Roger Daltrey

Roger Daltrey CBE of The Who, and longstanding Teenage Cancer Trust Honorary Patron, said: “The pandemic has been a huge blow for the charity’s finances and has been especially tough on young people with cancer. But Teenage Cancer Trust’s nurses and youth support teams have been amazing – and have gone above and beyond to deliver first class care in the most challenging of circumstances. They are truly amazing. A huge thanks to Absolute Radio, Bush, and Richie for backing their incredible work with this fantastic new fundraiser.”

How to donate to Teenage Cancer Trust:

Young people with cancer need specialised nursing and emotional support. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to meeting this critical need.

Coronavirus hit the charity hard both financially and on the frontline. Overnight, face-to-face fundraising stopped which led to a £6m loss in income, and on the frontline, some of our funded staff were redeployed and specialist units repurposed to support localised responses to the pandemic.

Because of the global situation, there have been no annual Teenage Cancer Trust concerts at the Royal Albert Hall for two consecutive years now.

The pandemic has also had an enormous impact on young people with cancer and for many, left them feeling more isolated than ever before.

Every day seven young people hear the words, “You have cancer”, so it is vital that we continue to be there for them. You can help us reach every young person that needs us by simply texting…

GIVE5 to 70500 to donate £5

GIVE10 to 70500 to donate £10

GIVE20 to 70500 to donate £20

Teenage Cancer Trust will receive 100% of your donation. Texts cost your donation plus 1 standard rate message. Always ask the bill payer’s permission. UK networks only.

Teenage Cancer Trust

Jane Ashton, Head of Music and Entertainment at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “We’re so excited to see our friends at Absolute Radio alongside some amazing artists coming together for this extra special fundraiser in support of young people with cancer. Every penny raised will be truly life changing and we can’t thank Bush and Richie and of course all those appearing enough for their fantastic support.”

Absolute Radio Content Director, Paul Sylvester, adds: “The Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity which resonates with our team and our listeners so it’s great to be able to show them our support. Our listeners are a generous bunch with impeccable music taste so we’re confident of being able to raise loads of money. Plus, this was Bush and Richie’s idea so really, they’ve only got themselves to blame.”
