Bradley Walsh is used to mingling with A-listers on the celebrity version of the hit quiz show, The Chase.

But the presenter was left stunned after coming face to face with a contestant on the regular version of the show who had previously found fame in a famous rock band.

Despite initially introducing himself as an IT manager, 52-year-old Paul Hanley later revealed to Bradley that he actually used to be a drummer in the English post-punk band, The Fall.

"I'm an IT technician. I was a drummer before I was an IT technician," Paul said

"On the road?" Bradley asked.

The contestant added: "Yeah a band called The Fall."

Bradley went on to say he remembered the group, who shot to fame in the 1980's. He exclaimed, "I remember The Fall, yes I do, good for you. What made you leave?"

Paul joked, "I decided I was going to form my own band and become a multimillionaire rock star. Hence why I’ve been in IT for the past 25 years."

The Fall formed in 1976 in Manchester and are most renowned for tracks like 'Totally Wired' and 'Hit The North'. The band continued until 2017 when their frontman, Mark E. Smith sadly passed away.

Paul Hanley was part of the band between 1980-1985 and his brother, Steve Hanley played bass in The Fall until 1998. Paul is now studying for a degree in English Literature.

Despite raising £7,000 in the cash builder round, Paul was unfortunately knocked out by Chaser Anne Hagerty and didn’t take part in the final chase.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
