The Official Charts Company has revealed the Top 40 best-selling album and singles of 2020 so far with Fleetwood Mac, Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher all faring extremely well.
In 2019, vinyl sales grew for a twelfth consecutive year in the UK rising by 4.1% to 4.3million units. Impressively, one in every eight albums bought in the UK right now is on vinyl.
Despite coronavirus and lockdown, the demand for vinyl shows no sign of slowing down and 2020 looks set to be another bumper year for the resurgent physical format.
Lady Gaga’s ‘Chromatica’, for example, shifted an impressive 11,200 vinyl copies in its first month alone and it’s 2020's fastest-selling album to date on vinyl and the fourth best-selling overall.
43 years on from its original release, Fleetwood Mac’s seminal masterpiece ‘Rumours’ is the best-selling vinyl album of 2020 so far ahead of Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back To Black’ and Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’.
Liam Gallagher – who scored the top selling album of 2019 on vinyl with ‘Why Me? Why Not’ – is in fifth spot with his chart-topping live album ‘MTV Unplugged’.
Other contemporary releases in the Top 10 include Gerry Cinnamon’s ‘The Bonny’ (no.8) and The 1975’s ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’ (no.9).
Over on the vinyl singles chart, Noel Gallagher’s ‘Blue Moon Rising’ EP is at number one with Pearl Jam, Blur, Pet Shop Boys and David Bowie also appearing within the Top 10.
