Aerosmith have cancelled part of their Las Vegas residency so Steven Tyler can complete a drug treatment programme in rehab.

The legendary band issued a statement this evening (24th May) confirming that 74-year-old Tyler recently relapsed after undergoing foot surgery.

Aerosmith’s Deuces Are Wild Las Vegas Residency shows at Dolby Live this June and July have been cancelled. The band hope to reconvene the residency in September.

Aerosmith’s full statement reads:

“As many of you know, our beloved brother Steven has worked on his sobriety for many years. After foot surgery to prepare for the stage and the necessity of pain management during the process, he has recently relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program to concentrate on his health and recovery.

“We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must cancel our first set of Las Vegas Residency dates this June and July while he focuses on his well-being.

“We will continue our 2022 dates starting in September, and we’ll let you know any further updates as soon as we can. We are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows.

“Thank you for your understanding and for your support for Steven during this time.”

Steven Tyler has been open about his battle with drug and alcohol addition over the decades. He told Drug Court graduates in Maui, Hawaii in 2014: “I’m nervous here because I’m telling you all my truth. I am also a drug addict and alcoholic and fighting it every day.”

Tyler and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry were nicknamed The Toxic Twins in reference to their infamous debauchery in the 1970s.

Speaking to People in 2019, Tyler said: "'There was a moment in '88 where management and the band pulled an intervention on me. They thought, ‘Get the lead singer sober, and all our problems would be over’. I am grateful and owe a thanks to them for my sobriety.”

He added: "I have had many times in my life where I just couldn't handle — whether it was a marriage or my addiction had reared its ugly head — and the rest of the guys in the band are not unlike that. But we have all seen each other through it, and we are here today."

Aerosmith cancelled their UK and European tour in February citing issues with Covid restrictions.

The UK leg of the European tour was due to visit London The O2 on Wednesday 22nd June before hitting Manchester AO Arena on Tuesday 28th June and Sheffield FlyDSA Arena on Friday 1st July.

Everyone at Absolute Radio wishes Steven Tyler all the best with his treatment.
