AC/DC are reportedly set to return to the road in 2024 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the start of their recording career.

The rock legends will perform their first live show in over seven years on Saturday 7th October at Power Trip festival in California, and AC/DC’s live return has sparked hope amongst their millions of fans that it will pave the way for a full tour.

According to the Daily Star (so we’ll take it with a pinch of salt), AC/DC are now eyeing up their first tour since 2015 and 2016’s Rock or Bust World Tour.

A ‘source’ told the tabloid: “For a while it looked like an AC/DC would never play live again. Technology has helped Brian (Johnson) get back to doing what he loves best.

“More dates are being looked at for next year (2024), some big shows.”

If the tour happens next year, it will come 50 years after the release of AC/DC’s debut single ‘Can I Sit Next to You, Girl’ featuring their original vocalist Dave Evans. The band re-recorded the track with Bon Scott the following year.

Speaking to the Fuelling Around podcast earlier this year, Brian Johnson strongly hinted that the Power Trip performance might be the first of more AC/DC shows.

He explained that AC/DC were primed to bring their latest album ‘Power Up’ to the masses shortly before the coronavirus pandemic hit in early 2020.

“It does take a lot of time to get a band like AC/DC together again. Most of the crew were out working with other people," Brian said.

“Trying to get those guys back together again was tough but I’ve got my fingers crossed - everything is going ok. The most important thing about it all is the eagerness we all feel, the juices are running again.”

AC/DC

Power Trip is AC/DC’s first concert since they played the Wells Fargo Center way back in 2016 when Axl Rose was singing with the band.

They haven’t performed with Brian Johnson on vocals since February 2016 shortly before he was ordered to retire by doctors or risk losing his hearing.

Johnson later joined forces with audio expert Stephen Ambrose, who invented a new type of in-ear monitor allowing him to perform live.

Last week, AC/DC announced that drummer Matt Laug will perform with them at Power Trip in place of Phil Rudd, who cannot travel to the California desert.

Sharing a short snippet of audio from rehearsals on their social media channels, AC/DC wrote: "PWR UP for Power Trip! Listen to the rehearsal of the boys powering up with Cliff Williams, who's coming out of retirement for the festival and Matt Laug on drums."

Alongside AC/DC, Power Trip also boasts performances from Judas Priest Iron Maiden, Guns N’ Roses, Metallica and Tool across its three days.
