How to take part in Absolute Radio's Time To Listen Listener Special
We want to hear from you
Here at Absolute Radio, we think it's important that we all have conversations about our mental health.
We all know that the coronavirus pandemic is impacting physical health, but the self-isolation and change to our routines is also affecting many people's mental health too. However, the good news is that things are changing, but it's down to all of us to end the stigma around mental health.
Over the past couple of years, we have explored music’s positive impact on our mental health in our Time To Listen Series. Musicians and comedians include U2's Adam Clayton, Sam Fender, Skunk Anansie's Skin, Tom Walker, Jo Brand and Rob Beckett have selected the tracks that meant something to them in various ways. From the song that changed their life, to the song that makes them happy, our guests described how music has helped them.

Take part in Absolute Radio's Time To Listen Listener Special:
Since hearing some of our favourite musicians and comedians tell us about the songs that soundtracked the highs and lows of their lives, the Absolute Radio presenters told us about the important songs that they turn to. Now, we want to continue opening up the conversation on mental health with your help. This time it's the turn of our listeners.
We would love for you to tell us what song means something to you. We want to hear the songs which remind you of the good times as well as the songs which have helped you through the bad times. Perhaps it’s a song that lifted your mood in a particularly tough time, maybe it’s a song you’ve turned to in the last year when things have been difficult, or it could be a song that soundtracked a particular time of your life.
We want you to tell your story and to be as full in their answers as possible because we would love for as many people as possible to feature on-air during Mental Health Awareness Week. That means we may call you up to get you to record your story for broadcast! We understand the difficulty of talking about our feelings but joining the conversation can make a real difference to ourselves and others too. The more we all open up publicly, the sooner the stigma will end.
To get involved, email timetolisten@absoluteradio.co.uk with your song choice and explain why it means so much to you.
If you need inspiration here are some examples from past Time To Listen guests…
Sam Fender:
In his episode of Time To Listen, Sam Fender talks about his own track, Dead Boys, which he wrote as a reaction to losing a friend to suicide and would change not just Sam’s life, but a lot of fans who related to it.
Badly Drawn Boy:
Here, Mercury Prize winner, Badly Drawn Boy, explains the role music can play in soundtracking a personal journey…
Skin:
Our very own Skin picked a song that she has vivid memories of connecting with emotionally, as the lyrics to Electronic’s ‘Getting Away With It’ reflected how she was feeling in a doomed relationship.
Mental health support:
We should all know where we can get help and also we should look out for each other. That can be as simple as having a conversation, talking about our own situation, or reaching out to someone who we think might need support. There is support out there and things that we can do to help ourselves and each other.
