Country star Miranda Lambert won big at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards last night (14th March 2021).

Duo Dan + Shay and the late John Prine were also among the Country and Americana winners at the ceremony.

Miranda Lambert took home the Grammy for Best Country Album for her seventh studio album ‘Wildcard’. She has previously won the same award for her 2015 record ‘Platinum’.

On receiving her award, the only Country-specific category to be aired on the main Grammy’s broadcast, she said, “We’re such a family in country music, so holding this right now, I feel like I’m holding it for all of us, especially for us girls.”

The Best Country Album category was also composed entirely of women and female-fronted acts.

The ‘Champion’ singer was also nominated for Best Country Song and Best Solo Performance.

Dan + Shay took the Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group performance for their song ’10,000 Hours’ with Justin Bieber.

The late John Prine won two Grammy Award for Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song for his final single ‘I Remember Everything’.

The track was recorded in 2019 and released posthumously in last June after the 73-year-old died in April 2020 from complications due to Covid-19.

His wife Fiona accepted the award along with their three sons at their home in Nashville.

She said, “It just feels so wonderful. I feel John’s presence today very strongly.”

Mickey Guyton made history as the first Black solo female artist nominee in a Country Music category at the Grammys. Although she didn’t take the top prize, she performed her song ‘Black Like Me’ released in June 2020 amidst the Black Lives Matter protests.

Singer songwriter Maren Morris also performed alongside John Mayer their hit ‘The Bones’ at the ceremony.
