Country music star Garth Brooks has confirmed that he is permanently removing himself from the running of CMA Entertainer of the Year.
The musician told fans and press during a press conference streamed to his Facebook page, that it was awkward after he won last year's award, winning over Carrie Underwood and Eric Church, saying, "You pretty much saw what happened after the CMAs, all the way through the new year. It got a little — it wasn't fun, let's put it that way."
He went on to say, "There was one tweet that really stuck in my head," explaining that it suggested that he step down from the running for Entertainer of the Year.
The 'Dive Bar' singer went on to say that he would still like to be considered for the other CMA categories, admitting "I'm extremely competitive", explaining they mean the world to him, but, "It's just, with Entertainer, we've been lucky enough to carry that home a number of times, and feel like it's somebody else's turn."
Garth has indeed been very successful, not only in the country charts, but also winning awards, winning a massive 22 Academy of Country Music Awards, and being nominated for 13 GRAMMYs, winning two. He was also named in Top 10 Forbes country music earners 2019.
