Dixie Chicks have dropped the word Dixie from their band name, and will now be known simply as The Chicks. Although they haven't released a statement, the band now have a new website, and they've changed their social media handles to 'thechicks'.

The band have also released a new video under the name The Chicks called 'March March' (contains swearing), featuring the quote from an unknown source, "If your voice held no power, they wouldn’t try to silence you."

Although the band have yet to comment on their new name, the word Dixie is a nostalgic nickname for the Southern US States, which was the heartland for the Confederacy. In the wake of George Floyd's death and the Black Lives Matter protests it has caused a number of names to be re-thought.

This latest news follows the news that Lady Antebellum would be renaming as Lady A. In a statement the band explained they've come to the decision after many long conversations with their 'Black friends and colleagues', following many protests in support of Black Lives Matter.

The Chicks are the biggest-selling US female band of all time, and earlier this year they returned with the comeback single, 'Gaslighter'.

The song is a 'punchy, power-anthem' and the music video matches that description. Using old black and white footage, interspersed with clips of the band singing to camera, the video shows the strength of women throughout the centuries, with the unbreakable bond they create through any misfortunes life throws at them.

Their album of the same name was set for a May release, but has now been pushed by until July 2020.

The band has won 13 GRAMMY Awards during their fantastic career, which has seen them release songs such as 'Not Ready to Make Nice' and 'Long Time Gone'.
